West Ham United striker Andy Carroll is expected to return from his latest injury after the international break, according to Claret & Hugh.

The respected Hammers site claims that the 29-year-old, on a reported £90,000-per-week at the London Stadium [Source: Spotrac], is in line for a return against Tottenham Hotspur on 20 October.

A senior club source told Claret & Hugh: “Everything is going well with Andy and we expect him to be available for the game if selected. He has been training well and there have been no further setbacks.”

Carroll is yet to feature this season after the ankle injury that has plagued him for some time resurfaced in pre season. Marko Arnautovic has been leading the line in his place.

OPINION

West Ham supporters will have their own view on whether this is particularly good news for the club or not, but Carroll does at least present an alternative option for manager Manuel Pellegrini off the bench. The former Liverpool man is like no other striker on the Hammers’ books at the moment, and he has the ability to change games when he enters the fray. Arnautovic has been superb up front this season and should by no means be replaced by Carroll in the starting line up, but the big frontman is a nice option to have off the bench. It’s all about staying fit for Carroll now because he is out of contract in the summer [Source: Spotrac]. He needs to show enough for the Hammers to feel confident about handing him a new deal, or to earn himself a move to a new club once his current contract expires. If he can help West Ham win some games in the process then Pellegrini will be a happy man. Watch this space.
