OPINION
This is big news for young stopper Whiteman, who has found himself on the fringes of the first-team in recent weeks amid injury problems at Tottenham. There have been a couple of occasions where the 20-year-old has travelled with the squad for matches in case of another injury blow, and has sat on the bench three times this season amid the injuries to Michel Vorm and Hugo Lloris. It looks likely now that Whiteman will become Tottenham’s third-choice goalkeeper next season, with Vorm’s deal set to expire next summer, and the club unlikely to renew the Dutchman’s contract. Whiteman will now have to push on and continue this form which has put him just about into first-team contention in the hope that rewards will come in the near future. It is unlikely as of now that he will actually feature for the club this season in the senior set-up, but next season that chance very well may come.
