Defensive midfielder Harvey White has been named as one of the top 20 young talents at Premier League clubs by the Guardian.

The 17-year-old has come up through the youth ranks at Tottenham and moved across to the Under-18s in the summer.

David Hytner, writing in the Guardian, said, “Tottenham have a handful of prospects in this age group and the Maidstone-born White has sailed a little bit under the radar but he is improving all the time and, most importantly, he is highly rated by the people that matter at the club.

“A good reader of the game, with sound passing and an excellent left foot, he is considered to be most effective as a defensive midfielder but he has shown the intelligence and versatility to slot in at left-back and centre-half.

“He was a standout performer at left-back earlier this season in the under-18s’ win over Chelsea – who are widely regarded as the powerhouse of English youth football. His dangerous set-piece delivery is another of his attributes.”

OPINION

Tottenham have a huge number of young players all vying to be the next stars under Mauricio Pochettino. How many will make it? Not many. It’s a tough business and while Spurs is one of the better, more progressive clubs, for youngsters, there aren’t many spots up for grabs for homegrown talent in the first-team. Harry Winks is the inspiration to all the players at Tottenham like Harvey White, who has been getting noticed with some fine performances. As Hytner says, he was exceptional against the Chelsea Under-18s earlier in the season, and will be looking to kick on this season. Getting named in this Guardian piece is another entry on his CV but most of the talking that matters will be done on the football pitch in north London. We wish him all the best of luck for the future and fans will be hoping another of their own makes it through the ranks.
