Tottenham have offered young goalkeeping talent Isak Midttun Solberg a contract offer to join the club after seeing him impress during a visit to the club over the summer, according to the 15-year-old’s father Thomas Solberg.

The young starlet’s parent revealed that his son had taken part in training sessions with the north London club, and that he is scheduled to return to Spurs over the coming months for more visits as he weighs up whether he wants to put pen to paper with the Lilywhites, which would mean leaving current side Bryne.

The father of the shot stopper told Eurosport, as quoted on the website of Sporten: “He has been offered a three-year contract from the age of 16 next summer. He has time to decide if he chooses to go for it or not. Now there is a number of training stays in Tottenham ahead, both before Christmas and in the first half of next year.

There is a fantastic academy and one of the best in Europe both in terms of facilities and trainers. It’s a great opportunity. But then he must decide if this is something he wants for the next three years.”

Opinion

Leaving home is tough enough for anyone, let alone a 15-year-old, but the opportunity to join Tottenham is a massive one and a move which will take plenty of deliberation from Solberg and his family. Spurs have already established themselves as a club who give chances to the very best young talents in their first team, and with Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm and Paulo Gazzaniga all already well into their careers, the opportunity for a young shot stopper to step in as understudy over the next couple of years is definitely there. Still, it has to be absolutely right for the youngster, and he will already have a good feeling as to whether Tottenham is a club where he wants to spend at least the next three years of his life, having spent time on what was said to be a training visit, but turned out to be something of a trial. Perhaps the coming visits over the next few months can help him make up his mind.
