After a barren summer when it came to transfers, the Tottenham faithful will all be keeping a keen eye on the rumours and speculation about who might be the next arrival through the door.

Regardless of who the club sign, it will be almost 12 months between new arrivals for Mauricio Pochettino and his men, whose last new capture was that of Lucas Moura back in the last winter window.

Despite their lack of business, this season – on the domestic stage at least – has started brightly, although there are still some gaps which need filling, not least a backup option to Harry Kane.

It is clear to see that Fernando Llorente’s future is bleak in north London and with few other options to call upon, without shoehorning someone into the role, a fix is most certainly needed.

Whoever fills the void, Spurs need someone who is going to take the club to the next level, rather than keeping them where they currently stand, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey is the answer.

The 21-year-old is naturally a winger but has the ability to play in a central role, and considering his young age, he has bags full of talent.

He has also been tipped for glory in England by Genk’s – Bailey’s former club – technical director Dimitri de Conde, who stated to the Mirror: “You could see that he has spectacular talent, you could see that from the first day on the training ground. He’s a top player. At this moment, he performed last season at Leverkusen, but he’s not at his top yet, there’s so much potential and he can improve so much.

“He would fit so well in the English teams and I have no idea whether he’d want to play for England but I think he’d want to play for a big nation.”

His evident ability, with 28 goals and 28 appearances in his 130 senior appearances, demonstrate a seriously bright future and he is the sort of talent Spurs need to take them to the next level.

The fact England has been name dropped as a potential location only heightens his potential success in the Premier League, and while there is bound to be plenty of interest, Tottenham must be front of the queue.
