Tottenham Hotspur have one of the best starting XIs in the Premier League, but their lack of real strength in depth is already starting to hurt them this season.

That is particularly true in attacking positions, with star striker Harry Kane suffering for a lack of quality back-up, and the same being true for playmaker Christian Eriksen.

The Dane’s recent injury has left Tottenham wanting for ideas in the final third, and if they are to become a team that can challenge for silverware every season, then they need to address this.

As reported by the Mirror, bitter north London rivals Arsenal are lining up a move for Bayer Leverkusen sensation Kai Havertz, and Spurs must now look to hijack this deal.

The attacking midfielder has already played 50 times for Leverkusen despite being just 19 years old, and recently earned his first international cap for Germany.

Havertz is one of the most sought-after youngsters in Europe at the moment, and his recent appearance for Germany illustrates how highly-rated he is.

His stats this season from the number 10 position show the impact that he has on games despite his tender age, with Havertz netting four goals and registering three assists in 10 games so far.

Having another player in the squad who can come in and take up Eriksen’s role, or supplement the Dane when needed would be huge for Tottenham as they look to beef up their attack.

This is not to mention how vast Havertz’s potential is, and how Mauricio Pochettino could well be the man to help him reach that level in north London.

Tottenham could have another bona-fide world star on their books in the coming years if they sign Havertz, and they must now put the wheels in motion to hijack Arsenal’s move for him.

Funds should start to become available in January, before a summer swoop to bring the 19-year-old to their swanky new stadium ahead of next season.
