Tottenham are reportedly on the trail of Sampdoria centre-back Joachim Andersen and he would be a perfect fit at Tottenham.

The towering 6ft 3in defender had a stuttering season last campaign, but has played every minute this season for Sampdoria in Serie A and they’ve only conceded three goals in six games.

Calciomercato, via newspaper Il Secolo XIX, reports that Tottenham have now scouted him on a number of occasions as his form has put him on the map.

Sampdoria are aware of the interest and are said to be looking at extending his current contract which is set to expire in 2021.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has already had cause to congratulate his chief scout Steve Hitchen recently, saying in Football.London that he advised him to sign Lucas Moura.

That’s worked out pretty well and we think Andersen could be a similar hit.

Tottenham need to look at the long-term future of the centre of their defence, with Jan Vertonghen (31) and Toby Alderweireld (31) both coming towards the end of their contracts.

Juan Foyth is one player who has a huge future in front of him but Spurs could do with another young enforcer in the middle. And Andersen fits the bill perfectly.

He’s not flying under the radar anymore though and Daniel Levy would need to act fast to land him.

He cost Sampdoria £1.2million from FC Twente last summer but is likely to command at least £20million now.

If he does, Hitchen will be up for even more praise from his Argentine manager.
