A section of Tottenham fans have delivered mixed verdicts on Twitter to a report that Toby Alderweireld could be sold to Manchester United in part-exchange for Eric Bailly.
The Daily Star claims that Mauricio Pochettino wants to take advantage of Bailly’s situation and take him in January to Spurs in January, with United using him as “bait” to secure Alderweireld.
Some Spurs supporters believe Bailly would be a good replacement for the Belgium international, while others are unconvinced.

Given Alderweireld is still locked in a contract stalemate with the club that is going to come to a head one way or another in the coming months, Spurs have to plan for life without him. Sure, the Lilywhite faithful are not happy about that, as Alderweireld is an outstanding centre-back who has been probably the best in that position in the Premier League during the last three-and-a-bit years. But Tottenham can’t afford to let him leave for nothing, and a part-exchange with Bailly does make some sense. Certainly the Man United man has lost his way at Old Trafford after being treated pretty shabbily by Jose Mourinho. Fast, strong and athletic, he has plenty to offer, although he lacks Alderweireld’s technical ability. Spurs would need to work on getting him back up to speed mentally after some difficult times at United, where he has started just five matches this season. There were some mega deals last January, including the Alexis Sanchez-Henrikh Mkihtaryan swap, so this shouldn’t be ruled out completely.
