Tottenham may be handed a massive boost for the visit of Barcelona this week as three of their injured stars eye a surprise comeback from their respective layoffs, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim on their website that goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, defender Jan Vertonghen and attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen are not yet definitively ruled out of the Champions League clash at Wembley on Wednesday after all picking up some sort of setback over the last couple of weeks.

Spurs head into the clash having lost their first group stage match against Inter Milan, and the report states that while the currently missing trio could make an early return to action, none will be firing on all cylinders.

Opinion

The match against Barcelona is one of the biggest for Tottenham this season and it could well determine how the Lilywhites do in Europe. They faced Real Madrid last season and performed admirably against the reigning champions, and they are now faced with yet another stern test against one of Spain’s powerhouses. Even at full strength Tottenham would be up against it and so missing the likes of Lloris, Eriksen and Vertonghen, who are some of, if not the, best performers in their respective positions at the club, would be a massive blow. It remains to be seen whether any of them are fit enough to feature on Wednesday but it does signal that they are all closing in on a return, which could prove to be in the Premier League as opposed to Wednesday’s outing. Either way, Pochettino is in line for a healthy boost sooner rather than later, and with a turbulent start to the season already, it could not come soon enough.
