BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton thinks that Mauricio Pochettino will “jump at the chance” to move to Real Madrid if the Spanish giants want him.

Writing in his column in the Daily Mail, Sutton said, “Mauricio Pochettino is clearly not a happy man. After building the most promising Tottenham team in a generation, he feels they are being left behind by their rivals.”

He went on to say that after two top-three finishes, Pochettino wanted to see his ambitions met in the transfer market.

Instead, Spurs bought no one over the summer and Pochettino has cut a frustrated figure at times this season.

He added, “Kane and Alli have recently signed long-term contracts but the longer Spurs’ trophy drought goes on and the more disillusioned their manager becomes, their heads will surely be turned.

“Pochettino himself must be wondering if he has taken this club as far as he can.

“If Real Madrid came calling now, I am sure he would jump at the chance to join them.”

OPINION

Pochettino has been linked to the Real Madrid job again – Tottenham fans must be wondering if the rumours will ever go away – and his odds have shifted dramatically over the past few days. He’s now one of the front-runners for the job, which will be a worry for everyone at Tottenham. We’ve talked to a lot of Spurs fans over the past couple of days however and they’re still convinced that he’s going to stay. One said that he wouldn’t leave with the new stadium about to open, while another said that he would leave but “not for a couple of years”. That’s always been the narrative that’s come from Pochettino himself. While he’s never outright dismissed the Real Madrid links, and you have to think it is his dream job, he doesn’t seem the type of manager who would up sticks and leave a club in the lurch mid-season. If he did leave it can’t be said what a catastrophe it would be for Tottenham. He needs money in January and he probably needs more in the summer. And he needs enough to convince him that he actually can turn Tottenham into a trophy-winning team.
