Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly not pursuing a deal for Boca Juniors midfield destroyer Wilmar Barrios, and many fans have taken to Twitter to react to the update.

As reported by ESPN, Spurs have no plans to sign the 25-year-old Colombia international despite previous reports from journalist Luis Fregossi suggesting the club had agreed a deal with his agent over a move.

Tottenham fans have now been reacting to this update on Twitter, with many seemingly expecting this from the club after their failure to sign anyone in the summer.

OPINION

This is a somewhat mixed reaction from Tottenham fans, many of whom seem to have given up on their current transfer policy. It looks as though it is not expected among some that the club will actually look to sign anyone in January after their failure to do so in the summer, when it is surely likely to happen because of that. There is little chance of this Tottenham side challenging for the title without reinforcements in January, and even if that did happen it is still a long shot considering a lack of recent investment. The upcoming new stadium will have diverted a lot of funds away from the squad, but that should change once the stadium is opened, which will hopefully happen very soon. With regards to this Barrios rumour, this is a player who has been linked with the club for a long time, but one whose arrival in January makes little sense. Spurs need to address their lack of attacking options, with their midfield looking relatively stacked at the moment. If they are truly not interested then this would not be a huge blow for their hopes.
