Tottenham defender Danny Rose has handed manager Mauricio Pochettino some major hope over his injury status after being forced off in the win over Cardiff City over the weekend.

The left back was replaced against the Bluebirds with two minutes of normal time left to play, limping off the pitch with what looked like a muscle injury in his upper leg.

However, speaking of the potential setback, Rose, once again a mainstay in the starting XI, has said it is just a soreness, rather than anything serious, and given his club hope over a swift return.

He told ESPN: “I’ve just got a sore groin. Hopefully it’s nothing too serious. I’ll meet up and England will assess it.”

Opinion

Rose has been one of the surprise stories of the season at Tottenham, having looked almost certain to leave after so long at the club. However, with no departure forthcoming, he has remained to become a mainstay once again in the Spurs line up, which is why Pochettino would have been so worried when he was forced to withdraw so late on against Cardiff. Still, as injuries go, it could not have come at a better time for the Lilywhites, with a two week break between games thanks to the international break. Rose might have been called up for England and it seems as though the defender is feeling confidant that he can play some part for the Three Lions, which will keep him fit and firing heading into the next stage of the Premier League. Still, Gareth Southgate must ensure he manages the left back’s situation carefully, or he might well face the wrath of Pochettino should he come back in anything less than perfect health.
