Tottenham chief Daniel Levy would never let manager Mauricio Pochettino leave in the middle of a season as rival director Ed Woodward names the Argentine as his number one target to replace Jose Mourinho, according to the Independent.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Spurs head is not open to seeing his man depart any time other than the off season, and that there would still be a hefty price to pay to prise him away from north London.

It is stated that Woodward is reluctant to pull the trigger on Mourinho despite mounting pressure, with the cost of sacking the Portuguese senior figure said to be £12million.

Opinion

Levy always has the club’s best interests at heart, be that money or personnel, and while that might be for business reasons, it means that the footballing side of things is well protected. Losing Pochettino would be a blow in itself, let alone in the middle of the campaign, and were he to head to Manchester United it would be a step too far for the Lilywhite faithful, and all trust would be lost between the fanbase and the board. It is easy to see why United are keen on the former Southampton man – he is proven in the Premier League, has a great record of developing young talents, plays exciting football and shares a lot of the ideologies that the Red Devils have over the years. Things have changed since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure and the negativity over Mourinho is stifling the club, and you can be certain Poch would be a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately for United, Tottenham have no intentions of letting him go any time soon.
