Davies slammed for Wales performance

|

A section of fans took to Twitter to lay into Ben Davies for his performance for Wales in their 4-1 thrashing by Spain on Thursday night.

The Tottenham defender played 62 minutes of the clash in Cardiff before he was replaced by Jazz Richards with his team already three goals down.

Many supporters were unimpressed with the display from the Wales international.

COMMENTARY:

It is safe to say Davies will not look back fondly at Wales’ return to the Principality Stadium last night. Used as one of three centre-backs alongside Ashley Williams and Chris Gunter, the Spurs defender struggled to get to grips with a fluent Spain side who picked the home side apart with their excellent passing combinations and touch play. To Davies’ credit, he was the best of Wales three principal defenders – although that’s not saying much as Williams and Gunter were picked apart – but Tottenham supporters claiming the 25-year-old can fill in for the injured Jan Vertonghen in the centre of defence may want to watch a re-run of this match. Davies is far better suited to left-back, where he is not required to be as aerially dominant. Wales don’t have the defensive options that Spurs have, and whatever Ryan Giggs tried against the excellent visitors would probably not have worked. They were taught a lesson.
