A number of Newcastle United supporters have turned to social media to voice their ecstasy over the first half performance of Martin Dubravka in the away clash against Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
The Toon Army travelled to the south coast to watch their side try to pick themselves off the foot of the Premier League table with their first win of the season, with Southampton also struggling in the early stages of the current campaign.
However, the Magpies were immediately tested by the Saints and it was a smart stop from their goalkeeper which prevented a certain goal from Mohamed Elyounoussi’s close range effort.
The Newcastle supporters were left stunned by their shot stopper on Twitter, with some insisting that he could be the best goalkeeper they have seen in the club colours.
COMMENTARY
Newcastle fans might not have had too much to celebrate when it comes to recent signings in the transfer window but in Dubravka they might have just unearthed one of the best goalkeepers the Premier League has to offer. His shot stopping abilities are outstanding and his efforts on Saturday rightfully had the supporters in awe on social media. Yes, the likes of Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot are experienced in the Premier League but Dubravka brings something else to the defence with his confidence and command of his box. A vocal shot stopper, there is no escaping his fury when a defender lets him down and those ahead of him will know that they will be on the receiving end of a mouthful should they perform any less than their best. He is an all round quality goalkeeper, and there should be no surprise that he has left the Toon Army celebrating him once again this weekend.
