Benjamin Mendy didn’t have his best game in a Man City shirt on Monday night and some fans want him punished retrospectively for a punch that he seemed to throw during the game.

Man City won the crunch Premier League encounter 1-0 but during the game Mendy appeared to throw a wild punch at Spurs man Erik Lamela.

Fans took to Twitter after the game with video evidence, which looks pretty damning.

Lamela knew nothing about it as the haymaker completely missed the target, which is lucky for Mendy as it would surely have been a straight red had it connected.

COMMENTARY
There’s definitely some provocation from Lamela as you can see him slapping Mendy’s neck before the Man City player loses his cool. But that’s a pretty significant punch that’s been thrown. Hilariously, Lamela knows nothing about it and has his back to Mendy, but you have to think there was a lot of luck for the defender here. Some fans are calling for a retrospective ban but we’re not sure any further action will be taken. We’re not saying we don’t think there should be – the punch is pretty blatant and we think Mendy has a case to answer to. However, we’ve seen cases before where a charge has been dismissed after no contact was made and we don’t think this one will go any further. Fans from other clubs might not be happy with this. They’d like to see Man City hauled back in any way possible after a fast start has seen them at the top of the table with just three goals conceded. They’re going to take some stopping.
