A section of Liverpool and football fans took to Twitter to lay into Adam Lallana for his cameo performance in their team’s 4-0 drubbing of Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday night.
The attacking midfielder came off the bench after 68 minutes as a replacement for Xherdan Shaqiri, who had been instrumental in their demolition of the Champions League minnows.
But many supporters of Liverpool and other clubs were not as impressed with Lallana, with comments including “fraud” and “terrible”.

COMMENTARY:
It’s not like it was just envious Man United and Everton fans piling into Lallana. There were plenty of frustrated Liverpool ones, too, as the attacking midfielder became the new Twitter scapegoat in the absence of the injured Jordan Henderson. Naturally, social media is not a place for patience when it comes to judgements on players, especially ones who have been ravaged by injuries over the last 12 months. It is fair to say Lallana has a long way to go before he gets back to his best following such a lengthy time on the sidelines or in rehab. He did the odd impressive thing against Red Star, the trademark half-turn that leaves an opponent for dead, the neat flicks and tidy lay-offs, but he also looked a little off the pace and wasted a great one-on-one chance. How Lallana needs a goal to restore his confidence and take his game somewhere close to the level of where it once was. He can still be a major performer for Liverpool this season.

Firmino’s turns are intelligent and purposeful. Lallana’s turns are pointless and self-obstructive.

Lallana frustrated me when he came on, I wish him best and stuff as long as he's our player but I just don't rate him.

Nah. Lallana was useless, Moreno had a couple of good burst forward, and Studge did have a positive impact.

It’s time to just stick with them two as starters. I don’t want to ever see Henderson Milner lallana again.
