A section of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to lay into Adam Lallana for his performance in Saturday’s 4-1 Premier League win against Cardiff City at Anfield.
Lallana was restored to the starting XI after missing the midweek demolition of Red Star Belgrade in what was his second start in consecutive league fixtures.
But many Liverpool fans were disappointed with the contribution of the England international, with comments including “biggest fraud in football”.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets below.
COMMENTARY:
After a year wrecked by injury, it is no surprise Lallana is not fully up to speed, or anywhere near back to his best. Jurgen Klopp clearly believes in the attacking midfielder, who had been such a key player for much of the manager’s reign. Many Liverpool fans have lost faith, partly due to his constant injuries and also a lack of end product. They have particularly compared the Englishman unfavourably with summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri, who has provided pizzazz and penetration in recent matches. Surprisingly, the Swiss was left on the bench against Cardiff after his midweek masterclass against Red Star. Instead, Klopp fielded Lallana on the right flank, Sadio Mane on the left and Mohamed Salah down the middle with Roberto Firmino just behind him. It was not a vintage display by Liverpool by any means. As for Lallana, who looked off the pace, he should probably avoid social media for a while.

Lallana is finished. Really must be sold in January while he's fit.

I hope we sell Lallana in January. Question is who would buy a player like that? #LFC

Another Lallana masterclass. For the love of all that’s holy… shift him on in January. Please.

All Lallana has done is lose the ball and about 4 of 5 pointless Cruyff turns. Sell in January.

Lallana offering nothing again…

Poor second half. Sloppy and slow. Get Lallana off. Good at holding onto ball but slows us down with 17 touches and turns every time he gets it, and not match-fit.
