Liverpool are ready to sell Alberto Moreno after Jurgen Klopp was blown away by rising star Adam Lewis after inviting him to Melwood, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim that Klopp has “quiet confidence” in the “incredible promise” of Lewis, 18, who he believes can take Moreno’s place as understudy to first-choice left-back Andy Robertson.

The Mirror report that Liverpool are resigned to losing Moreno when his contract expires at the end of the season and local lad Lewis is bring primed to step straight into his shoes after being invited to first-team sessions at Melwood.

OPINION

Moreno has seen his status at Anfield diminish over the last year due to the remarkable consistency of Andy Robertson, who seized his opportunity and has established an iron grip on the left-back position. It now appears likely the £12million signing from Sevilla (source: BBC Sport) will leave in the coming months, with a January exit possible as that remains the last chance for Liverpool to secure a fee for a player who would be available next June. Klopp has showed that he is willing to back youthful talent, with Trent Alexander-Arnold a shining example of the success of the academy, whole Joe Gomez has also made huge strides over the last year. Could Lewis follow Alexander-Arnold from Kirkby into the first team and save the club tens of millions in the process? Steven Gerrard spoke highly of him when managing the Under-18s and the left-back is now one of the best players in the club’s Under-23s. Clearly, Klopp has hope he can make the next step.
