BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton has singled out the suspension of Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos for costing them in the loss to Aberdeen on Sunday.

Aberdeen progressed to the final of the Betfred Cup thanks to a goal from Lewis Ferguson, and Sutton has blasted the Gers for having poor domestic form that does not match their good form in the Europa League.

He added that the suspension of their star striker is what ultimately cost them the win on Sunday, labelling it as “daft”.

Sutton said on his personal Twitter account: “As good as Rangers have been in Europe their domestic form is bang average so far… no getting away from it Morelos daft suspension cost Rangers.”

OPINION

Sutton is absolutely spot on – for some reason, Rangers form domestically has been poor, while their form in Europe has been excellent. It remains to be seen why this is, but Sutton has hit the nail on the head when he said that Morelos’ suspension cost the team on Sunday. This was evident in the fact that they only registered one shot on target for the entire game, which really goes to show the lack of quality they had up front. Steven Gerrard must be rather concerned following this display, and there is no doubt that he will have to source attacking provisions in January as a result. This was his best chance at a trophy this season, but the Gers have blown it due to their inability to create chances in the final third. Their domestic form must improve soon – or they will start to slip further and further down the league.
