As section of fans have taken to Twitter to rave about Everton defender Ashley Williams’ performance for Wales in their 1-0 win against Republic of Ireland on Tuesday night.
The centre-back played the full 90 minutes for Ryan Giggs’ side as a Harry Wilson free-kick was enough to secure a Nations League victory at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
Supporters of Wales and different clubs were in raptures at the performance of Wales, with comments including “rolled back the years”.

COMMENTARY:
Hailed as the man of the match by Giggs after helping Wales keep a clean sheet and secure back-to-back wins against the Republic for the first time since 1986, Williams has delivered a much-needed shot in the arm to his international career. The obituaries were being written just days earlier after Wales were given a footballing lesson in defeat to Spain. But the on-loan Stoke City player showed great strength of character to demonstrate that, aged 33, there is life in the old dog, yet. In truth, this was more like a Championship fixture than a top-class international. With Wales deprived of their two star men, Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey, most of the players are regulars in the English second tier. And it showed. That suited Williams, who has been in and out of the Stoke side this season, down to the ground. He was able to dominate in the air and lead the defence just like he did during the nation’s memorable 2016 Euros campaign.
That’s the best I’ve seen Ashley Williams play in a long, long time

People will praise the youngsters, and rightly so.
But Ashley Williams continues to defy his critics. Was outstanding tonight. Led by example. Rolled back the years with an outstanding display???????

So many youngsters brilliant tonight, but Ashley Williams was fantastic. Has had a tough time of it lately, but he looked back to his best. Pivotal in helping Wales keep a clean sheet. #IRLWAL
