A section of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to hail the transformation of Alex Iwobi under Unai Emery after the team’s 3-1 Premier League win against Leicester City on Monday night.

Iwobi was given the nod to start ahead of the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and played the full 90 minutes as the Gunners chalked up a 10th consecutive win in all competitions.

Many Arsenal supporters commented upon how much Iwobi has improved, with comments including “most improved player in the Prem this season….by a mile”.

COMMENTARY:

After a few years of treading water under Arsene Wenger’s laissez-faire leadership, suddenly Iwobi is looking the real deal again. His pace, mobility and cutting edge has seen him get the nod over Aubameyang and Ramsey to start the last two league matches, no mean feat for the 22-year-old, who was criticised so heavily by fans for going missing in action frequently last season. Suddenly, Iwobi is driving at opponents, taking them on and creating opportunities for a re-energised Arsenal side responding to their new manager. For an attacking player, the Nigerian does not score enough goals – or assist enough either, for that matter – and he has still scored only one goal so far this season. With time, those stats need to improve, especially given the competition for places at Arsenal, where Emery has such high demands on the front four. The signs are that the once-maligned Iwobi has a big role to play.
