Dele Alli is on the verge of signing a new contract with Tottenham, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The newspaper site claim the attacking midfielder is on course to commit to another long-term contract even though he signed a six-year deal in September 2016 that has four years to run.

The Telegraph report Tottenham are confident of a swift agreement with Alli following positive talks and that he is set to follow Harry Kane and manager Mauricio Pochettino, who penned new contracts during the summer.

OPINION

Alli has achieved a huge amount for a 22-year-old, and is a key member of the Tottenham team that has been transformed by Mauricio Pochettino into an established member of Europe’s elite as well as one of the best in the Premier League. His record of goalscoring, goal creating and big-match moments at Spurs, for one so young, is hugely impressive. Yet there is a sense that the England international has been treading water since he put Real Madrid to the sword at Wembley last November, when he had the world at his feet and was being talked about as a potential £150million Real Madrid or Barcelona signing. Such talk has subsequently gone quiet, and Alli had a decent if far from brilliant World Cup. He has started slowly this season, too, and is currently out with an injury that also rules him out of the midweek Champions League trip to PSV Eindhoven. Keeping Alli is crucial to Spurs’ playing future, but no doubt, but he needs to do much more to join Europe’s top bracket of players.
