Tyrone Mears has hardly been one to divide opinion since West Brom signed him in August – that is because he has simply been horrific for the Championship promotion hopefuls.

Darren Moore seemingly made the rash decision to snap up the 35-year-old when he was left without a right-back when Allan Nyom joined Leganes on a season-long loan.

Mears agreed mutual termination with MLS side Minnesota United and headed to The Hawthorns where he ticked off the 11th club of his career by becoming a West Brom player.

It was clear from the get-go that Mears was a short-term fix to an issue that Moore created, perhaps due to his lack of experience working in the transfer market.

West Brom confirmed on their official website that the senior player had been handed a rolling contract that expires in January, which clearly shows that they are going to work on signing another right-back ahead of the winter.

However Mears has been handed more of a first-team role than many would have hoped with Matt Phillips’ recent injury and the one-time Jamaica international has left most fans completely baffled by his awful performances.

Moore uses wing-backs in his formation and one of the most important attributes of that role is stamina.

Mears looks as though he is running on empty in every single game he plays and Moore has had to take him off early in four of his seven starts even though he has no other natural right wing-back options.

It is clear that the Baggies must force Mears out of the exit door in January when his deal expires.

He is barely even a Championship quality player and if West Brom want promotion, they need players who can at least last 90 minutes at the very minimum to be able to secure an instant return to the Premier League.
