Tottenham star Lucas Moura has revealed that he is loving life in north London after his move from Paris St Germain in January and promised the fans he has even more to give after his bright start to the new season.

The Brazilian winger took some time to bed into his new club after making the winter move for a fee the London Evening Standard state was £24.5million, managing to appear just six times in the Premier League, four of those coming in the starting XI, from January to May.

However, he has started the new campaign in fine fettle, appearing in every top flight match so far and netting three goals, but despite impressing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, he has promised he is not yet playing at his full capacity in a claim which will excite the fans.

He told the London Evening Standard: “I had five years in Paris, an amazing city, and now London. Big clubs, big cities. It’s a gift from God.

“Coming here to play in the Premier League was a good decision. Now is a new challenge. It’s good for me, not only as a footballer but as a person. The first five months (at Spurs) was to adapt to the new life, the new championship, the new coach, a new country, a new club.

“Now I’ve done a pre-season with the team and I understand what the coach expects from me. Here the game is so dynamic, the intensity is so high. I hope I’m a little far from my best. I’m playing well but can do better.”

Opinion

Lucas has been one of the standout stars for Spurs already this season so fans will be licking their lips at the prospect of him playing even better than he is right now. He certainly seems to have settled in comfortably after what cannot have been an easy move from PSG, having not played much at all for the French giants before heading to London. His fitness levels would have been some way off what was required from Pochettino, but after a summer of hard work it looks as though his efforts have paid off. It is also good to hear that he is enjoying living in London – moving cities is not always easy for footballers, and we have seen on a couple of occasions players becoming homesick, or simply not enjoying the lifestyle in and around their new club. With fellow south Americans around him, such as Pochettino, Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez, it seems he has found a home away from home, and that should help him produce his very best football for the rest of the season.
