Tottenham might have endured a barren summer transfer window and plenty of speculation over a number of individuals – but at the end of the day, Spurs are sitting pretty in the Premier League this season.

One man who seemed in demand was manager Mauricio Pochettino, who penned a new deal in North London as one of a number of important figures to commit their long-term futures to the club.

The Daily Mail claimed that the Argentine boss had actually turned down Real Madrid after the Spanish giants saw Zinedine Zidane left after their Champions League winning season, with the job eventually going to then-Spain boss Julen Lopetegui, who was sacked as the national manager before their World Cup campaign as a result.

However, results have not gone the way of Los Blancos so far and after a 2-1 defeat at home to Levante on Saturday, Sky Sports have made the major claim on their Twitter account that the La Liga heavyweights are close to sacking their manager – and that will leave Levy sweating after their summer hunt.

Pochettino might well have been left a little bit frustrated by Tottenham’s lack of spending and while their performances have been good in the Premier League, their Champions League outings have not impressed thus far.

He turned down Real in the summer but another approach might well see his head turned, and the fact that the Spaniards seem to be close to sacking their current man in charge means they will be looking for a replacement sooner rather than later.

Pochettino will undoubtedly be on their list, and Spurs cannot be certain that this time will see him turn down another move should it come along.
