Pontus Jansson launched a staggering foul-mouthed rant about referee Jerry Simpson after Leeds United’s 1-1 draw with Brentford at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Sweden international clearly felt aggrieved about the decision to award the away side a penalty kick in the second-half, which Neal Maupay converted for his 10th goal of the season.

Jansson headed in a late equaliser for Leeds but he was clearly seething in his on-the-pitch interview, as shown on Sky Sports Main Event, when he was warned about his language and blasted the referee.

“I feel s**t to be fair,” said Jansson. He was told to mind his language by the Sky interviewer, but added: “I don’t care, this is a robbery from the referee.”

“You think I should be [happy]?. No chance.”

OPINION

Jansson was fuming after the final whistle and did not show any signs of caring about his use of industrial language on live television. While it is not likely that anyone will really care about him swearing on live TV, it just goes to show how a referee can impact the mental state of the players on the pitch. Jansson used that as a motivation when his brilliant header earned the Whites a last-minute equaliser, and he looks elated in his celebrations. However after the final whistle it probably sank in that Leeds can now lose their top spot in the Championship with Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and West Brom all within touching distance of the Yorkshire giants. It is now the international break for the Whites, who will have to wait two weeks before they can bounce back from this draw, but on the balance of the game, it was probably a fair result as Brentford were the better side for large parts of the game.
