Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Graham Dorrans has suffered yet another injury setback and the Rangers midfielder could potentially be forced to undergo surgery again.

Dorrans, 31, has made just three appearances across all competitions this season after he picked up a knee injury in pre-season training.

Despite impressing on his return to action, it has now been confirmed that the former West Brom midfielder is set to visit a surgeon after a fresh setback in training.

“Graham has had a bit of a setback this week and has gone back to see the surgeon,” said Gerrard, as quoted by the Daily Record.

OPINION

Dorrans has had serious issues with injuries since Pedro Caixinha signed him from Norwich last summer and it looks as though these problems may plague him for the rest of his career. The Scotland international has always been prone to injuries but over the last two or three years it has become a serious problem and has barely kicked a ball in the last 12 months. Gerrard needs to have a serious think about the midfielder’s future with the Gers because he is more than likely one of the top earners at Ibrox. Dorrans will have another year left on his contract at the end of the season and it may be best for all parties if they were to go their separate ways. The midfielder may flourish and get over the worst of his injuries at a team with less pressure and fewer fixtures. It is a real shame for the player because he is Rangers mad, but there is no room for sentiment these days.
