Rangers made plenty of woeful signings last summer and one of the worst was undoubtedly striker Eduardo Herrera, who scored just two goals in 24 appearances across all competitions in his debut season for the Gers.

In the summer, Steven Gerrard told the 30-year-old, as quoted by the Daily Record, that he needed to find a new club and while the striker did join Pedro Caixinha’s former side Santos Laguna on a season-long loan, he remains on the books at Ibrox and needs getting rid of for good in 2019.

When Herrera returns to Glasgow at the end of his temporary spell in Mexico he will have just one year left on his contract with the Light Blues.

It may be for a cut-price deal as he will be in the last 12 month of his deal, but Rangers really need to look into cutting their losses on the centre-forward, who has been nothing but awful since signing for the Glasgow giants.

Even since returning to Mexico in the summer, the former Pumas striker has made nine appearances across all competitions and has not scored once.

In all of his five starts, Santos Laguna have failed to win and he has been sidelined for the last five Liga MX games – four of which his loan side have won.

Herrera is clearly struggling to cut it in Mexico and surely that makes it as clear as anything that Gerrard and Mark Allen have to get rid of him next summer, now matter how well he does between now and then.
