Rio Ferdinand was left drooling over Harry Kane’s beautiful goal in Tottenham’s 4-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Kane, 24, appeared to have gotten Spurs back in the game when he scored a well-placed finish early in the second-half to get the score back to 2-1.

However a certain Lionel Messi stepped his game up after that and punished the North London club.

Nevertheless, Manchester United legend Ferdinand was amazed by Kane’s contribution.

“This is great. You want world-class players one their day to produce the good and Harry Kane, I love his character,” said Ferdinand on BT Sport 2 after the game.

“2-0 down. Sit down. Bottom corner. There was a similar goal he scored in the Premier League as well. This is just [a great goal].”

OPINION

Everyone outside of Tottenham appeared to be out to get Kane last month after a slow start to the season, but his moment of magic against Barcelona is what can be expected by the England international, whose finishing is quite simply unparalleled. It was a lovely goal in the second-half and it is no great shock that Ferdinand was gushing over it in his post-match verdict. Kane was unfortunate that his supply was cut against Barca because of the absences of both Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli. Once they are back to action, they will be playing behind a centre-forward whose form is getting better and better every week, so Spurs’ form will improve and Eriksen and Alli will find themselves creating more chances and supplying more assists. It’s important that Spurs fans remember that this is Barcelona. They are the best team in the world and have the best player in the world, so getting two goals against them is no easy feat.
