Leeds United defensive star Pontus Jansson is facing a nervy wait over his immediate future in the side as he is probed by FA officials over his comments following the draw against Brentford, according to Leeds Live.
The website claim that the centre back has been asked to provide an explanation of his comments after he launched a verbal attack on the officiating in the clash, calling it a “robbery” and using expletives on live television.
The Swedish powerhouse was the Whites’ knight in shining armour in the last clash before the current international break, netting a late equaliser to snatch a draw against the Bees and add a point to their bid to secure a top six spot this season.
However, it is stated that the FA are investigating the incident, having received an official statement in response from Jansson, and that he could face a ban for his comments.
Yikes. A suspension for Jansson would be a hammer blow for Leeds, having already found out just how stretched they are at the back this season after injuries to some of their top stars. Still, he should know that you cannot go around making such statements about the officials in the public domain, and while he might well escape a ban, you can be certain he will be handed a warning and a fine about his conduct in the future. His future could well depend on what sort of response he delivered when asked about the statement by the FA, and if he has been remorseful then he might just be given a rap on the knuckles. However, if he was his straight talking self and insisted he stuck by what he said, then there could be trouble coming his way. It is a nervy wait for the Whites and Jansson himself, and there is little doubt Marcelo Bielsa will be having a word with all his squad about their future conduct, regardless of how angry they might be in the aftermath of a game.
