Everton are not interested in signing former Manchester City attacker Samir Nasri, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper has claimed on their website that the Toffees hold absolutely no interest in the 31-year-old, who is currently a free agent and serving a drugs ban that will expire next month.

The Daily Mail had earlier reported that Everton were lining up a shock swoop to sign the two-times Premier League title winner, however in this latest development, that no longer seems to be the case.

OPINION

What a relief that is. Even if Everton needed to sign another winger, Nasri should never have been considered by Marco Silva and Marcel Brands as he is nowhere near the player he once was and signing someone off the back of a drugs ban just doesn’t look good. Everton have plenty of attacking talent anyway and they are usually criticised for having a top-heavy squad that has too many attacking midfielders and too many wingers. Nasri plays in those positions so signing him would be absolutely ridiculous. The former France international will more than likely slip into obscurity now and join some team that not many have heard of. He last played for Antalyaspor in Turkey up until he left when he was handed his drugs ban. It will be someone on that sort of level who he joins next and no one in the Premier League will be mad enough to touch him.
