Charlton manager Lee Bowyer has confirmed that he is pursuing a permanent deal for West Ham midfielder Josh Cullen.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at The Valley, appearing six times across all competitions this season and assisting two goals.

When asked if he would like to sign the Irish midfielder on a permanent basis, Bowyer made it clear what his intentions are, but it would depend on whether or not the Hammers want to keep the player.

“Obviously if they were interested in selling him then we would be interested in taking him,” said Bowyer, as quoted by London News Online.

“He has definitely improved us. He is a very good player, for sure.”

OPINION

Cullen’s loan move across London to Charlton has certainly helped him out so far, but there is still a lot of time left on his season-long deal at The Valley and there are plenty of reasons for him to show why West Ham should keep him. Cullen has already made a few appearances in the Hammers’ senior squad with nine first team outings to his name. He has already impressed on loan at Bradford in League One but did not have much of an impact at Bolton for the first half of last season. That means that Cullen is probably not quite at Championship level just yet but if he keeps on playing well this season for Charlton, he may have able to make the step up. That means that it would probably be worth cashing in on him if West Ham get the chance and Bowyer’s interest shows that he would be up for a deal with his old club.
