Leeds left-back Barry Douglas is unlikely to play in the Championship game against Blackburn on Saturday but Kemar Roofe, Gaetano Berardi and Pablo Hernandez should be available for selection, according to journalist Phil Hay.

Writing in the Yorkshire Evening Post, he delivered a fitness update on a number of Leeds first-team players.

Roofe and Berardi are fit to play after making it through an Under-23s game last Friday against Burnley.

Hernandez was left out of the Under-23s game and although his status hasn’t been confirmed by the club, Hay thinks that he is on course for a return on Saturday.

However, Douglas is “likely to sit Saturday’s game out with a hamstring strain” and Luke Ayling is suspended.

OPINION

Marcelo Bielsa has a number of selection problems for the game against Blackburn on Saturday – some good and some bad. Bielsa likes to pick an unchanged line-up but with influential players like Roofe, Berardi and Hernandez available, he might well break from tradition to get his strongest team out. In defence he’s without Luke Ayling, who is suspended after his red card against Brentford, and probably Douglas, who has a hamstring issue. Stuart Dallas and Berardi could slot straight into these positions. It means that Leeds are almost back to full strength after about six weeks of injuries for key players. The only worry coming up to the game surrounds Pontus Jansson. The centre-back is playing as well as he’s ever played for Leeds at the moment but his wife is expecting their new baby imminently. It was thought this might happen over the international break but after initially sitting out of Sweden’s two games, Jansson was called up for the game on Tuesday against Slovakia. Leeds fans will be hoping Jansson is available for the early kick-off on Saturday.
