Wolves are lining up a big-money bid for Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna ahead of the January window, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim the Premier League club have joined Aston Villa, Swansea City and Norwich in the race for the 21-year-old centre-back.

The Scottish Sun report Wolves have been scouting McKenna and are weighing up a significant offer for the player in January after Villa and Celtic had summer bids rejected.

Good move for Wolves?

Yes. Wolves are well stocked in the centre-back positions and their three-man defence has adapted superbly to Premier League life. Skipper Conor Coady has been mentioned for a possible England call-up, while Willy Boly has also made a big impact this season for Wolves. However, there are signs McKenna could be the best centre-back to emerge from the SPL in years. The 6ft 2in powerhouse (Transfermarkt) came on leaps and bounds last season for the Dons, who have admitted it is “inevitable” their prize asset will move on in the near future. Wolves would be making a smart signing if they were to get him.

Likely to happen?

If Wolves want McKenna, there is an excellent chance they could get him. The Molineux club have demonstrated their willingness to spend big on talent under their Chinese owners and out-bid rival clubs to get deals done. There is plenty of interest in McKenna, who is a rising star of Scottish football and it is likely he will leave either in January or next summer.
