Leeds United midfielder Alex Wollerton has agreed the terms of a loan move to North Ferriby United, it has been confirmed.

The non-league club announced on their official Twitter account on Friday afternoon that the 19-year-old has signed on a youth loan from the Championship leaders.

Good move for Leeds?

Yes, definitely. Wollerton has yet to play for the senior Leeds side and isn’t in the frame to follow the likes of home-grown teens Jack Clarke, Ryan Edmondson and Jamie Shackleton into the first-team squad. Moreover, he’s not quite ready to play at League One or League Two level, where Mallik Wilks has had such success over the last two seasons. At the same time, Wollerton turns 20 in December and needs to be playing more than just Under-23s football, where he has established himself as a lynchpin under Carlos Corberan in the last 12 months. North Ferriby play in the tongue-twisting Northern Premier League Premier Division, which is English football’s seventh tier. The east Yorkshire outfit will provide an ideal platform for Wollerton to play against semi-professionals who have mortgages to pay and rely upon the win bonuses to feed their families. It is a world away from the gilded Championship lifestyle, and that could do Wollerton the power of good.
