Sky Sports pundit Chris Kamara has expressed his surprise at the success of West Bromwich Albion manager Darren Moore.

The Baggies boss was not able to prevent the club’s relegation last term but impressed in his short time in charge, and has carried that on in a strong start to life in the Championship this season.

Kamara admits that he was not sure about Moore on his initial appointment, but has said how delighted he is that the manager is proving his doubts wrong.

“I’m especially pleased for Darren Moore, because when I was Bradford City manager I bought him from Doncaster Rovers,” he told the Express & Star. “I set him on his way.

“To see him doing well as a manager is just fantastic. Darren Moore, because he’s such a nice chap, I thought maybe, nice chaps can’t be successful as managers. But he’s gone in there, the players love him, they play for him, and he’s done tremendously,” he said.

OPINION

It’s somewhat surprising to see Kamara say he wasn’t sure if Moore would be successful or not, but it seems like he’s trying to give his old player a compliment. He’s crediting the Baggies manager as a nice guy, so nice in fact that he didn’t know if he would make a good manager. Moore has, however, looked good in his short time as number one at the Hawthorns so far. The team are excelling in the Championship and, despite a couple of dodgy results lately, they look like they have a team that is capable of going straight back up the Premier League. Moore did some good work in the transfer market to bring in the likes of Dwight Gayle and Harvey Barnes, who have both been phenomenal this campaign, and has demonstrated significant transfer nous. But it’s his ability to improve the players who were already at the Hawthorns that has been his calling call as a manager, and is something that has seemingly surprised Kamara.
