Prominent Belgium journalist Kristof Terreur has said that Thierry Henry is with the Belgium squad at the moment.

He added that they are “convinced” that he will stay with the national side and not take the Aston Villa job.

Terreur made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Tuesday morning.

He followed this up with a photo of Henry on the Belgium training ground.

OPINION

After being a short-priced favourite for the past few days, all the talk now seems to be that Henry will not be accepting the job as Aston Villa manager. That comes as a surprise. Villa are a huge club and the job would be a big step up from his current role as number two in Belgium. However, many different sources have now come forward to say that he will not be taking the job and with an answer expected today, and Henry still at the Belgium training ground, it does seem like the reports have substance. That puts John Terry in the frame, along with Brendan Rodgers, Dean Smith and even Roberto Martinez. Aston Villa are keen to get their new man in place by the next round of Championship fixtures after the international break, but now the eventual successor seems no closer to being named.
