Simon Jordan savagely destroyed Aston Villa fan favourite Jack Grealish when sharing why he thought the club should have kept the faith in Steve Bruce.

The former Crystal Palace chairman described the 23-year-old midfielder as being troublesome and simply not good enough ahead of Bruce arriving at the club.

Jordan also had less than kind words for Ross McCormack and Mile Jedinak before insisting that Bruce should have been kept on as the Villans manager for at least another year.

“Then the Villa job came up and he (Bruce) took it over from Di Matteo, which I thought was a terrible appointment,” said Jordan on talkSPORT (Sunday October 14 18:40).

“And if you look at some of the signings Di Matteo made y’know with respect to Jedinak, he’s at the end of his career where they’ve taken on financial obligations which are unbelievable.

“You look at McCormack who is a pain in the backside as he can’t even get out of his gates to get to the training ground and y’know you had Grealish who wasn’t good when Steve arrived, he wasn’t good he was a troublesome player.

“All of those things have evolved and I’m not a Villa fan whose close to every game but I do think the right decision was to give Steve another year.”

OPINION

Grealish has been a fan favourite for a while at Villa Park and the thought of him leaving the club in the summer was almost too much to bare for some. Due to this it’s hard to see supporters appreciating Jordan dubbing Grealish not good enough ahead of Bruce being appointing Villans manager in 2016. The midfielder had been involved with the Villans’ first-team ahead of the experienced manager arriving and several supporters were exciting by his talents at that stage. However it seems Jordan wasn’t one of the people tipping Grealish for great things and perhaps his remarks are his way of inadvertently crediting Bruce for the 23-year-old’s improvement. While that can be debated, what can’t be debated is the fact that Jordan clearly things the Villans made a mistake parting company with Bruce. Jordan did go on to point out that the former Villans boss is a friend of his but it seems he really thinks, putting his friendship aside, that Bruce deserved more time despite his side’s poor start to the 2018/19 campaign.
