Leeds centre-back Connor Shaughnessy was withdrawn from the Under-23s game today against Burnley in the warm-up, and it had been reported that he was injured.

In the YEP live blog coverage of the game it was pointed out that “he’s had injury problems for so much of the year and he failed to make it through the warm up. This was supposed to be his comeback.”

However, Phil Hay has since reported that Shaughnessy was suffering from illness and added there were “no fresh injury worries there.”

OPINION

This is good news on a day when Leeds fans were celebrating the return of Kemar Roofe and Gaetano Berardi. Both players played in the 2-2 draw with Burnley today, with Roofe going 70 minutes and Berardi playing the full 90. It’s a clear indication that they’re ready to go in the next Championship game against Blackburn on Saturday. Shaughnessy was also attempting a comeback, albeit not such a high-profile one. It looked like he might have suffered an injury but it has been revealed that he was just ill. The other player possibly due for a comeback today was Pablo Hernandez, but his absence doesn’t necessarily mean that he’ll be out for longer. He’s 33-years-old and Marcelo Bielsa might have different plans for his rehabilitation that didn’t involve a run-out at full pelt in the Under-23s. There’s been no official update on the Spaniard yet but there’s still hope that his recovery is on course.
