Leeds United midfielder and first team mainstay Samu Saiz has revealed that after visiting some of the big clubs in the Premier League that he feels the fan base at Elland Road is better.

The Whites faithful are known to be some of the most passionate supporters in the football league, often selling out away stands and supporting their side in vast numbers when at home, and Saiz has delivered a verdict which will no doubt have fans delighted.

Speaking to the media in the pre-Blackburn press conference, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Saiz said: “To tell the truth, I feel I am lucky because I’m in a big, beautiful city. What I said before about the fans, I feel loved and I feel gratitude towards them. When you walk down the streets of Leeds and you see the love of the fans, you feel an important player.

“I went to other stadiums, in the Premier League, and with big teams, I saw big stadiums and these big clubs don’t have the fans we have.”

Opinion

It is no secret that Leeds fans are among the most fervent that the Championship, or any division in England for that matter, have to offer, and it seems that Saiz is beginning to learn just what it means to be a fan favourite at Elland Road. There might be a few Premier League outfits who would refute the claims of the Spaniard when it comes to the support shown in the stands, as everyone believes their fans are the best, and the Leeds player might just be a little bit biased towards his own side, but it is hard to argue that when things are going right, the support at Elland Road is outstanding. Of course, it works in reverse too, with poor performances and results picking up just as powerful a response from the fanbase, only in a negative fashion, and Saiz has indeed been on the receiving end of the fans’ fury once or twice during his time at the club. Still, his comments will have the supporters delighted and they will no doubt make their affection for the Spaniard clear at Ewood Park this weekend.
