Leeds United are to sit down with Kemar Roofe and hold talks about offering him a new contract, according to Football Insider.

The reliable site claim the Yorkshire giants are keen to secure the 25-year-old forward to an extended deal amid interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

Football Insider report that discussions with Roofe and his representatives are set to begin this month, with his current agreement due to expire in the summer of 2020.

OPINION

Little wonder Leeds are set to open contract talks with Roofe. He was their top scorer last season with 14 goals and has taken his game to a new level under Marcelo Bielsa. Currently out with an injury that will sideline him until after the international break, the 25-year-old has adapted superbly to the centre-forward role which now appears his permanently. He scored four goals and supplied two assists in the first six matches of the season for United and ran defences ragged with his movement, mobility and outstanding work ethic. For many supporters, he was unrecognisable to the attacking midfielder who had been a hit and miss performer in his first season at the club and for much of his second. Roofe is certainly in a strong negotiating position, with just over 18 months left on his contract, and can expect a handsome pay rise if he can secure an agreement.
