Harry Redknapp has heaped praise on Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish after watching him in the Friday night game against QPR.
Aston Villa lost the game 1-0 but Redknapp was blown away by Grealish, who he says deserves to play in the Premier League.
Talking on the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show (talkSPORT, Monday, 6am), Redknapp said, “I looked at Villa and thought what a great young player Grealish is.
“He’s a magnificent young talent. No disrespect to Aston Villa, if they manage to get up there, great, but he really needs to be playing in the Premier League.”
Redknapp was asked if he could play for Spurs, after being heavily linked with them over the summer and he said, “Definitely.
“I sat and watched him again on Friday night and he just wants to get on the ball. He’s a great footballer.”

Aston Villa held onto Grealish over the summer when it looked odds on that he would leave. Tottenham’s Daniel Levy ended up prevaricating while Villa were in financial difficulties and missed his chance when the new owners took over. There’s no doubt that Grealish is a Premier League talent and the real question will be whether Villa can hold onto him again if they don’t get promoted this season. Redknapp thinks that Grealish could definitely do a job for Tottenham and there’s a decent chance they’ll come back in for them if Villa stay in the Championship. It’s still relatively early days but Villa are currently 17th and would need a run of really good results to turn things round in what is a highly competitive league. If Grealish does go though, Levy has no chance of getting him on the cheap after he signed a contract extension in September that will see him stay at Villa Park until 2023.
