Belgium coach and former Premier League striker Thierry Henry has been given the green light to take a manager’s position by boss Roberto Martinez as he holds talks with Aston Villa over the empty seat in the dugout, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that while the Belgian international side are confident that the French legend will remain as part of Martinez’s backroom staff, he has been told by his boss that he can leave the setup to go and follow a managerial career of his own.

It is stated that he impressed Villa during talks over replacing Steve Bruce, although there has yet to be any announcement of who will be filling the void.

Opinion

That is one less hurdle for Aston Villa to overcome, and it is good to know that Martinez has given his blessing to Henry over becoming a manager himself. He obviously thinks that the former Arsenal man has the talent and ability to become a leading figure rather than just a coach and has therefore given him the green light to move from international duty to taking over at a club. Will Villa be the place he cuts his teeth in the managerial field? Only time will tell, but he certainly seems like someone they would be keen to have on board. He is a massive name in world football and as shown by the likes of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Joey Barton at their respective clubs, the former generation of players seem to have the knack for management. Will Henry be next to step into the limelight? You would not bet against it.
