Robert Huth will not be coming to Leeds after claiming on Sky Sports (Goals on Sunday, September 30, 10am) that a move to Elland Road would be “perfect” for him, according to Leeds journalist Phil Hay.

The player, who is out of contract after leaving Leicester in the summer, is on the lookout for a new club and put the call out to Leeds on Sky Sports over the weekend.

However, talking on the Inside Elland Road podcast, Hay said, “I have looked into this and from what I’ve been told there is no chance of him coming to Leeds, although he was angling for it.

“He was pictured in Leeds not so long ago and he was on the Sky Goals on Sunday program.

“How bad would the injury crisis have to get for Bielsa to start panicking? He hasn’t really blinked at the loss of Roofe, Bamford and Berardi.

“Huth said on Goals on Sunday that Leeds would be the perfect move for him but Leeds don’t seem inclined to do that one at all, regardless of Huth’s track record.

“I don’t think his style of play is what Bielsa is looking for.”

OPINION

Well, Robert Huth has got his answer in a roundabout way and will need to carry on looking for a new club. He’s good enough for the Championship but his wages might be an issue. He also said on Goals on Sunday that he wasn’t rushing because some clubs wanted to do a deal on the cheap. Well, the 34-year-old might have to concede on the wages front as there isn’t a line of clubs waiting to take him on. It’s no surprise that Bielsa doesn’t want him at Leeds, although it’s not so much Huth here, but any centre-back. Leeds fans were clamouring for a new enforcer over the summer but Bielsa wasn’t interested then and he’s not interested now, despite an injury to Gaetano Berardi. Bielsa doesn’t seem prone to knee-jerk reactions, as Hay points out, and if the injury situation clears up we can see a very quiet January window for Leeds next year. He seems happy with his squad of players and while Leeds are top of the league it’s hard to argue with his thinking. Seeing as most of the players are from last year’s squad, it’s the perfect example of the impact a manager can make on a team. Bielsa has worked a miracle.
