Paulo Fonseca would be an “amazing” appointment for Aston Villa but he is not interested in moving to England to manage in the Championship, according to Telegraph journalist Matt Law.

He added that Villa would have to look elsewhere, adding “sadly” to his tweet.

Fonseca, the Shakhtar Donetsk manager, is reported by the Birmingham Mail to be one of the names on the Aston Villa shortlist.

Law made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Thursday morning.

OPINION

Villa sacked Steve Bruce after the game against Preston on Tuesday night. His position had become untenable and the result on Tuesday was the final nail in the coffin. Fonseca would have been an amazing appointment, but it looks like Villa will have to keep looking and scrub him off the list. He is still second favourite for the job with the bookies, with Dean Smith the favourite. The Brentford manager has done brilliantly to get his club in the top six of the Championship and Villa bosses seem keen to get him in. Some big names are still in the mix though, with Brendan Rodgers, Thierry Henry and former Villa enforcer John Terry all credited with a big chance by SkyBet. If Terry gets the job he’ll be the latest of the new-wave of former big-name players to move into management, after Steven Gerrard took over at Rangers and Frank Lampard took the job at Derby. They’ve both started the season brilliantly, but would the combative Terry have the same appeal?
