Former Barcelona and Real Madrid great Luis Enrique has heaped praise on Leeds striker Tyler Roberts.

Enrique, the current Spain manager, was talking ahead of the game against Wales on Thursday night and noted that the absence of Gareth Bale would help his side.

However, he added that they would have to watch players like Tyler Roberts, and that the game wouldn’t be easy.

As quoted on Wales Online, Enrique said: “It seems a sensible move due to the injuries he (Bale) has had, but it is a positive for Spain.

“We have analysed Wales with Bale in the team, and he has great speed, but it does not change anything for us.

“They have good, young players, like Tyler Roberts, and we know it will not be easy.”

OPINION

What a massive ego boost for Roberts! Getting mentioned in the same breath as Bale by a true legend of the game, who’s done it all at Barcelona and Real Madrid. Playing under Bielsa is definitely getting players noticed and they must be loving life at Elland Road at the moment. It’s such a massive change from last season, when Leeds would have struggled to give away  a few of their players after a dismal season. Roberts has been given a chance by Bielsa this season and it’s transformed him into a player who Leeds fans know they can rely on – maybe not as the main striker, but as a solid backup, or even being moved out wide alongside the main striker. He’s still not the finished product but he’d only made one appearance for West Brom and struggled with injury last season, making just a handful of appearances on the bench without coming onto the pitch. If Roberts can do something against Spain on Thursday night, he might look back at this season as his tipping point.
