Aston Villa are set to name Thierry Henry as their new manager with former defender John Terry to join him as his assistant in what is a ‘dream’ appointment for the top brass at the club, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim on their website that the former France forward and England defender were both interviewed by the Villans and that both are set to step into the void after the former Hull boss and his backroom staff were relieved of their duties last week, with Henry taking charge and Terry supporting his former rival.

The report claims that the Villa chiefs are delighted to be able to secure both in what is a surprise turn of events, with both having been up for the manager’s position.

Opinion

This really is quite the stunning twist, for most would have been thinking that it would be one or the other, not both. They might both be lacking in managerial experience but as shown by the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard in their first spells in the dugout, this generation of former players, which Terry and Henry were firmly part of, has some serious talent when it comes to management. Their experience of playing at the highest level for such a long time will come in incredibly important as the Championship campaign drives on, while Terry’s time at Villa Park will help the duo bed in much quicker than if they were completely new to the club. There are no guarantees this will be a successful partnership but it shows great ambition from the board, and the fans will be hoping they will finally be able to enjoy a match day rather than throwing cabbages at their manager.
