Adam: Villa need to appoint a proven manager

|

Stoke City midfielder and BBC regular Charlie Adam has said that Aston Villa’s best options to fill the gap as manager are one of David Moyes or Sam Allardyce in a bid to secure a “quick fix”.

The Villans are still without a new man in the dugout after sacking Steve Bruce last week, with plenty of names speculated as to who might take over the role.

Adam, who is a regular pundit on BBC Radio 5 Live, claims that someone experienced needs to fill the void at Villa Park and put forward either David Moyes or Sam Allardyce, who have 1037 Premier League games of management between them, as the top choices.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport: ” If I’m Aston Villa, I’m going for the quick fix now and the quick fix is your usual suspects.

“Yes Dean Smith, go and have a chance because he plays good (football) but Sam (Allardyce), David Moyes, they’re going to get linked but they’re probably the best options if they want their fix now and to get back in the Premier League.”

Opinion

Adam seems to be the voice of one half of the Aston Villa fans who are wanting someone with experience and a proven record to come in and take Bruce’s place for the rest of the season. However, the other half, as well as those in the boardroom, seem willing to take a big risk on their new appointment, with the likes of Thierry Henry and Rui Faria linked with the post. No one can say whether an unproven figure will do good or bad, with plenty of case studies to support both sides of the argument, but at least with someone like Moyes or Allardyce you know what you are getting. The pair are massively experienced and will bring their known brands of football to the fore and likely garner some great success, such has been the case over the years. The worry might be that the likes of the experienced duo are too similar in style to Bruce, and that the club want something fresh to reignite their season.
