A section of Celtic fans are worried sick by the thought that Jack Hendry could start against RB Leipzig in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Hoops go into the game knowing that they will need a win in Germany to give themselves a realistic shot at qualification from Group B having lost to Red Bull Salzburg earlier this month.

They could go into the game without Filip Benkovic though, who is a doubt, and that means Hendry, 23, is likely to earn a start despite his terrible form this season.

Some Celtic fans are not happy with the idea of him possibly playing against RB Leipzig, with one supporter saying that he is “useless”.

OPINION

Hendry has been very poor since joining Celtic from Dundee in January. Brendan Rodgers set out to strengthen his defence last winter but instead he probably weakened it by signing sub-par players like Hendry and Marvin Compper so that he didn’t have to add much to his defence in the summer. Benkovic has been a massive upgrade on other centre-backs at Parkhead though and has been very impressive since Leicester’s £13million signing arrived on loan for the season. It will be a blow if he is not fit to play against RB Leipzig and the idea of Hendry replacing him in the starting line-up is terrifying. These Celtic fans do not seem to rate the ex-Dundee defender at all. He was absolutely awful in the last Europa League game against Salzburg and Leipzig, if anything, have an even better attack to worry about. Hopefully Benkovic is able to start because if Hendry is in that starting XI then the Hoops will probably lose.
